Abstract
By helping the poor to economic self-help, a society’s stability is easily enhanced. On many occasions, parents and society regard students entering vocational education stream as track fit for the academically less endowed individuals. Hence, there is the need to make vocational education a less dead-end. Approaches for visible efforts call for total commitment to resource
allocation for the training and acquiring of marketable skills cum craftsmanship something which vocational education is all about. Infact, the fundamental philosophy of vocational education is to train people for gainful employment and make them to be self-reliant economically, politically and socially. How else one can generally describe poverty alleviation than this, one therefore feels that the issue of poverty can be a thing of the past if vocational education is given its rightful attention and place in Nigeria’s
socio-economic policies. This paper therefore sets to examine the roles vocational education can play in the alleviation of poverty and development in alleviation of poverty and development of the Nigerian nation.
