Abstract
This study focused on environmental pollution and livelihood in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The study was carried out to identify the extent pollution has affected the Niger Delta environment. In line with the above, two research objectives, two research questions and two research hypotheses guided the study. This study collected both primary and secondary data. Marjorly, primary data were collected through the use of questionnaire. The generated data were presented in tables. The hypotheses were tested by employing the Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient (SRCC) Statistical tool, which was facilitated by the Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. Based on the data analysis, the study discovered that
there is significant impact of oil pollution on the Niger Delta environment and oil pollution affect livelihood in the Niger Delta
region. It was recommended that there should be appropriate compensation by the multinational oil companies to the oil bearing
communities, also to see to their socio-economic well-being. Furthermore, there should be a constant environmental monitoring,
assessment and evaluation to determine the level of damage that is done by gas flaring and other oil pollutions on the environment as a whole.
