Abstract
In Nigerian institutions of higher education, the issue of adopting and using modern information and communication technologies (ICT) for teaching and learning is of paramount importance. This is because the Internet and other ICT tools are widely used as research and educational tools, providing a society with access to global information and instant communication. Because of its flexible nature, the demand for electronic Learning(e-learning) has increased day-by-day. Electronic learning system should be standardized to increase the quality of existing systems because of its increasing demand. It unveils some views that people and institutions have shared globally on the adoption and integration of electronic learning technologies in education through surveys and other observations. Distance education supports the professional development of participation on an institutional observation, whereas electronic learning provides the easy way as well as flexible environment to study compared to distance education. Most Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria face many educational problems and obstacles that technology can help to overcome. An open source, such as Moodle e-learning platform has been implemented at many institutions which could be used
as an aid to deliver e-content and to provide various possibilities for implementing asynchronous e-learning web-based modules. This paper shows that the use of interactive features of electronic learning increases the motivation of the students in the higher institution for the learning process. This paper also reviews current e-learning process and the new dimension in various domains and thus, pointing out issues relating to it.
